Minnetonka homes for sale are moving quickly in the economic upswing. Located in Hennepin County, about eight miles west of Minneapolis, the suburban city of Minnetonka is Minnesota's thirteenth largest city. Conveniently located near I-494 and I-394, travel to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport takes less than 30 minutes.

Big Waters

Native Americans named the area Minnetonka which means "Big Waters." Lake Minnetonka is large enough to allow about six cruise boats to provide tours and floating parties for all occasions. In fact, Lake Minnetonka is one of Minnesota's largest lakes.

Due to the location and incredible landscape, outdoor recreations are among the most highly regarded family activities. Nearly 1100 acres house about 40 parks and recreational areas. The Minnetonka Loop Trail System is a thirty-mile-long trail most often used for hiking, walking and cycling.

The median price of Minnetonka homes for sale is about $240,000. The median household income is nearly $65,000 in the city and $55,000 county-wide. About 4 percent of the county's population works from home. The lake provides a variety of parks, beaches, boating facilities and fishing areas intertwined with a great community atmosphere and incredible homes for sale.

Summertime is the busiest outdoor season on Lake Minnetonka. Most residents with lake homes are full-time residents, few look for warmer climates during the winter. Lots and lake homes are readily available with new homes being built frequently.

Transportation

Interstates 494 and 394 are the best ways to travel in Minnetonka. I-394 provides a reversible HOV lane for buses and car pool vehicles during hours with highest traffic. Park and ride lots allow drivers to park their vehicle and ride the bus into downtown areas.

School System

Ten communities make up the Minnetonka Public School District. Six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school provide an excellent learning atmosphere. Among some of the highest ranking school systems in Minnesota, faculty and students alike take great pride in their school system. The system serves fewer than 8,500 K-12 students.

The Early Childhood Education Program provides educational services for younger children.

Shopping

Malls and a variety of shopping centers offer unique shopping experiences. The Ridgedale Shopping Center is a two-story mall with a beautiful skylight as the central point.

Nearly 140 stores guarantee something for everyone. Mall amenities include an early morning walking program, strollers, wheelchairs and a lost and found.

Smaller, family friendly and family owned stores still exist in this metropolitan area. Unique, one-of-a-kind gifts may be found in any number of mom-and-pop style stores in the area.

Minnetonka MLS and Lake Homes

Like all lakeside communities, not all homes are located on the lakefront. Lakefront properties and Minnetonka homes for sale range from simple and quaint to extravagant. Prices often range between $100,000 and $2,000,000 depending on square footage and location.
