Most individuals have an idea of what they would want their bedroom to look like as well as have in it. They might say they would want a king size bed, walk-in closets, sliding glass patio doors and a bathroom with shower and separate bathtub. While all this sounds realistic, for most, often it isn’t. There just isn’t enough space in most people’s bedrooms for all of this. You can still have a cozy dream room if you can learn to maximize your living space properly.

A good way to save some extra space in your bedroom is to buy a storage bed. A storage bed will usually have drawers built into part of the bed frame. Having these drawers will often eliminate the need to buy a dresser and save some space in the room at the same time. There are also conventional type beds that are raised off of the ground so that you are able to store items under the bed for more storage space and platform beds that are small and very low to the floor which gives the appearance of more space.

The use of shelves in a small bedroom can make it seem larger and shelving hardly takes up any space. These shelves can store items like pictures, books and other keepsakes which can often take the place of various nightstands, tables and dresser tops.

Wallpaper can make a small space seem larger if you use the right patterns. If you use horizontal patterns, the room will appear bigger. If you decide you do not want to use wallpaper, small pictures or art can often make the room appear larger because the extra wall space that seems to be available.

Small furniture placed at the proper angles will distract attention from how close the walls seem to be to each other and this is just another way to add to the more space illusion.

Finally, if you use mirrors properly in a room you can cause a room to look larger with a little trickery and the right type of furniture.
