They are assets in buying and selling properties.

However, the quality of help you get depends on the type of person you hire to represent you. A good real estate agents has tons of qualifications. Although it is hard to find the perfect agent, you can always make a checklist to determine if a large percentage of a good agent is present on the person you hire.

Here are some of the qualities you should be including in your checklist:

  1. Approachable. The first time you speak with the real estate agent, you would already know if he or she is approachable. They have a natural aura that makes you want to talk to them and feel comfortable at all times.

  2. Makes you the Boss. In doing a particular transaction, you have a goal. Everybody wants to reach it according to his or her way. A real estate agent should be able to make a plan to make your goals happen. However, he or she should not be a dummy. They should also be able to exercise their independence, analyze situations by identifying the advantages and disadvantages, and make suggestions to make the transactions smoother and problem free.

  3. Licensed. Real estate agents should be able to work their jobs according to standards. Being licensed manifests this ability. Some people who are not licensed may be deemed operating illegally.

  4. Full-time. As much as possible, choose a real estate agent, who does broker services as a living. He or she should be working full-time so that in case of emergency, they would be able to assist you without any limits.

  5. Local. They should be reputable real estate agents who are known locally. Going for local real estate agents can be an advantage on your part, since they can give you all the information you need about the place; one that cannot be found in any public resource about the place.

  6. Open and detailed. They should be able to discuss matter with you openly. They should be able to report updates with regards to the transaction. Aside from that, they should be specific about their terms in their commission. Hence, there should be no hidden charges or what so ever. The payout should be fixed and should only be limited to what will be disclosed on the HUD-1 form.

One should screen their real estate agents well. A person should also choose an agent who can share the same vision as you have. This is even very important because this can be the key to a harmonious working relationship at all times.
