Hydrophonics is a technique that is used to grow plants generally on an indoor scale without the use of soil or natural daylight. When using this method, plant life are able to grow in gravel or rockwool and even straight liquid as long as there is an adequate amount of nutrients in each of the mediums. These nutrients are in essence the crucial chemicals that vegetation need to grow. These nutrients are not dissimilar than those found in top soil, but because these essentials are presented in such a way that plant roots don't have to search for them, growth rates are exceedingly vigorous. Because of this method plants yield a larger, earlier harvest of the healthiest vegetable and flower crops.

If you use high nutrient soil you can attain the same yield as hydrophonics but the plants won't develop quite as rapid. The nutritional quality of the plants and their needs for water, C02, light and climate are also about the same as for plants grown in soil. In addition, even though these may appear to be super plants when grown with this technique, they are still subject to disease and insects no matter where they are grown.

Benefits to Hydrophonics: One of the best benefits to growing hydroponically is that very high yields can be produced in places where soil is infertile or where there is no soil at all. Lack of need for watering is another advantage to this technique. Once the plants are growing in whichever medium chosen it's almost a set it and forget it situation.

If you are restricted to a smaller space of living, hydrophonics may be a technique for you since bigger plants don't need as much root space.
