We want our home exterior to look good. That is why we exert effort to clean it. We even take time to make sure that the landscape looks good. This is especially true for home owners who want to sell their property. If the exterior of the house looks good, it will attract a lot of buyers. If it does not, then the buyers will not have a reason to be interested.

Among the best way to present the home exterior properly is to paint it. Painting the exterior is simple. However, the result can be disastrous if no preparations were made. This is why you need to make sure that everything is ready before you start painting your home exterior. Here are some tips to help you:

  1. Make sure that you have all the materials needed. This is very important especially if it is your first time to paint. See to it that you have a good paint brush and rollers. Make sure that you have old newspapers and other materials that will protect your floor, plants and furniture while painting. You also need a sturdy ladder. You need enough supply of sand papers and paint scraper as well. You also need a primer. And most importantly, you need the paint.

  2. Choose high quality paint. You need this because your exterior is exposed to the different environmental elements like the rain and the wind. When choosing paint, you need to check the label. See to it that it is for outdoors. It should be the right paint for the surface you will paint. If you are painting wood, then the paint should be developed for woods.

  3. Prepare the area you will be working on. Remove the pots of plants so that it will be easier for you to move. Remove the external furniture as well so that you can work with ease.

  4. Clean the surface before painting. Aside from preparing the area, you need to prepare the surface that you will be painting. You can brush the surface. If the area is large, you might need to use heavy duty water sprayer. Wait for it to dry before you apply anything on it.

  5. Remove the chipped paint. You will clearly see this when the surface is clean. Use the sand paper to do this. You can also use the paint scraper. Once these are removed, it will give you a nice surface to work on.

  6. Protect the areas that you do not want to be painted. This is very important. Tape the door knobs and other areas that you do not want to paint. Cover the floor with newspapers and the plants with cloths. This will prevent the paint from staining them.

  7. Apply primer on the surface before painting. As mentioned earlier, wait for the surface to dry before you apply the primer. After that, wait for the primer to dry before you apply the paint. Read the instructions on the label of the paint to make sure that you are applying it properly.

For the exterior painting to be successful, see to it that you make ample preparations.
