If you plan to transform your old kitchen into a new one, you are not alone. A modernized kitchen increases your home’s value. The kitchen is a major place in your home where you spend a lot of time. A bright, modernized and efficient kitchen makes working there a lot easier and more pleasant.

Kitchen upgrades range from cheap and easy to complicated and expensive. Following are several tips on upgrading your kitchen.

  1. The less costly upgrade is to change the look of your kitchen through a fresh coat of new paint to the walls. With a little bit artistry on your part, you can transform the kitchen walls to a plastered paradise or you can opt to rub a few warm glazes for a spotted look. If you prefer a very subtle look, consider adding a border on the ceiling or the mid-wall. Ensure that the color of the wall paint do not clash with the cabinet colors.

  2. A kitchen cabinet upgrade is another great way to modernize the look of your kitchen. If your old cabinets badly need repairs or replacement, you can opt to purchase RTA cabinets. These cabinets are ready to assemble and easy to install and costs less than having them custom made.

  3. Changing the kitchen floors can be done with ease. There are times when the flooring could be the main reason why your kitchen appears old. Various options can do to enhance the floor such as applying floor paint for a quick and inexpensive change or installing linoleum tiles. Before you proceed, make sure to do a research on any flooring change.

  4. A stained and outdated countertop spoils the appearance of your kitchen. You can tile over it or re-laminate it. Laminate sheets can easily be purchased in home depot and home improvement stores. They cost less than a new countertop. Laminate sheets are easy to install, lighter and comes in a variety of styles, finishes and colors.

  5. If your funds do not cover buying a new refrigerator or dishwasher, you can try covering it. Appliance panels and trim kits are cheap and come in over two-hundred designs and colors, which includes chalkboard, stainless steel and sports motif.

  6. Replace outdated light fixtures. You may choose to add track lighting. They are available in various widths, prewired and can be installed in a flash. Most feature halogen spotlights where you can point to key areas in the kitchen like the workstation and the stove.

  7. Consider installing an undermount sink to replace an aged sink. This kind sits beneath the counter which makes wiping the counter much easier. You might also consider installing porcelain or cast iron if you are bored of the stainless look. If a sink replacement is out of your budget, consider replacing the faucet instead. It would be hard to decide which works best with so many shapes, sizes and designs to choose from. A high arched faucet is perfect for filling up pots or large buckets.

  8. The kitchen backsplash is often unused and ignored. You can make it more useful by tiling or painting it. You can buy small decorative prints to hang there or you can add specially designed railings with hooks, shelves and other types of holders that will hold items that are often used such as utensils, spices and cookbooks.

  9. Plants not only enhance the look of your kitchen but also refreshes the air around it. Kitchen windows can be turned into instant greenhouses and adding glass shelves. You can use glass clips in installing them on the glass and add several potted herbs and you will have an herb garden that is beautiful and handy. The empty space above the cabinets is perfect for silk plants.

You may be surprised that the kitchen update you choose requires less work and investment than what you are expecting.
