Safety and security is a major concern when you purchase a home, and you really need to find what fits you best when you are dealing with home security options. There are so many choices available that it can be quite dizzying to think about them all, and the only limit is what your budget will allow you to spend.

You can go for the most technologically advanced protection and turn your home into a veritable fortress, but you will end up paying tens of thousands of dollars, if not more. On the other hand, if you are on a tight budget, you can opt for security items that will fit what you can actually spend.

For example, you could opt for an alarm based home security system that is connected to a local emergency service. You would have to consider that you might have to pay an installation fee, and that you will have to pay a monthly fee to the company that is providing security. Costs for this type of system generally run around $30 per month.

If your budget will not allow for an extra $30 per month, then you can think about placing stickers and other forms of advertising that you have an alarm system connected. There have been studies conducted that show that advertising the fact that you have an alarm is sometimes enough to stop all but the most determined criminals, even if you do not have an alarm.

A dog is also a good way to add to your home security, even if most people do not think of dogs as a home security system. You could opt for a trained guard dog, but you might end up paying a few thousand dollars for a pure-bred, well-trained guard dog.

On the other hand, you could go to a local shelter and adopt a dog that will alert you when there are strangers nearby. If you choose to go with a dog, you also need to think about the cost of food and maintenance for your pet and add that into your budget.

You could always go for a leading-edge home surveillance system, and this is where you will probably end up paying the most money because it could come with motion detectors, several cameras, monitors, and countless other gizmos and gadgets. You would be able to see who is approaching your home long before they get to the front door, and this gives you invaluable time to call for help if you should need to do so.

There are also less expensive items such as door stop alarms, magnetic alarms, and even dummy home surveillance systems with fake cameras, wires, cabling, etc. These items come at a reasonable price, and they are quite effective as a deterrent to anyone looking to break into your home.

In the end, you will have to decide what will work best for you and your family, and what will make you feel the most secure. You will also have to work within your budget and try to get the most protection you can for the money that you have available.
