Meeting the neighbors after moving can often be a daunting task because you do not really know how you will be perceived or received. However, if you have chosen to live in a city where you do not really know anyone, you are going to have to make overtures so that you can get to know the people who live around you.

If you have moved to a place where there is a homeowners association, then a really good place to get to know your neighbors is at board and association meetings. People from the community will usually come together at these meetings, and it is a good way to know what is going on around you, and who your neighbors are.

You would also stand a very good chance of meeting and getting to know your neighbors at a local park where everyone goes with the kids. You would have the opportunity to see your neighbors interacting with their kids, and you could try to figure out whether these are the types of people you would want to know.

Living in a gated community or condominium with lots of common areas has the advantage that you will be running into your neighbors all the times as you use the laundry room, the swimming pool, the gym, the exercise area, the recreation room, or any other area where the neighbors usually gather. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to present yourself to your neighbors and try to get to know them.

There is always the wait and see method, and you could sit at home and wait and see if any of your neighbors will come by and say hello, but you may not meet as many as you would if you were proactive about your search. Rather than wait, you always go door knocking and introducing yourself to your neighbors, and you may be pleasantly surprised by how well your new neighbors might receive you.

They were probably once in your shoes too, and they are bound to remember how difficult it was to make new friends. You might stand a very good chance of meeting interesting people and making friends if you go and try to meet your neighbors.

A coworker who lives nearby would also be a good source for getting to know the other neighbors, especially if your coworker has been in the area for any period of time. You could get to know your coworker, and your coworker could introduce you to some of the people that he/she associates with.

Your children will probably make friends much faster than you will as they begin to play with the children in the neighborhood. You could go and watch your kids play, and you can strike up conversations with your neighbors as they come out to watch their kids play.

There are also local libraries, grocery stores, churches, cafes, and other places where people from the neighborhood like to gather or visit frequently. These places provide an excellent opportunity for you to get to know your neighborhood and to get to know your neighbors at the same time.
