Low-Cost Recycling, Foreclosed Homes Sale in Indianapolis

Prospective participants in foreclosed homes sale in Indianapolis do not only discover affordable properties; they also discover various programs that support the citations received by Indianapolis as among the best housing markets in the country.

For the past several years, Indianapolis has been recognized by reputable publications for its housing affordability, its growth prospects and its capacity to recover from the foreclosure crisis.

Another positive development that can add to the likeability of Indianapolis as a city is its non-mandatory low-cost curbside recycling program. While other cities made their recycling programs mandatory despite the high participation costs, Indianapolis sought to offer free or low-cost non-mandatory recycling programs.

Karen Haley, director of sustainability for Indianapolis, said that the city does not need to make recycling mandatory. It just needs to improve the system to make participation easier and at no cost to residents.

Haley added that residents have been participating despite the addition of the $9-per-month curbside recycling fees to the $32-per-year trash collection charges. She said that about 12,847 households or 5 percent of the 263,000 trash collection customers participated in the recycling program.

If this program is enhanced and offered at no cost to residents, it will be another feather in the cap for the city. Foreclosed homes sale in Indianapolis has already been written about in the media for the affordability of homes. It is safe to say that people planning to purchase foreclosure homes for investment or for own use have considered the city because of its positive coverage in the media.

The pace of Indiana foreclosures also slowed in February, posting a 5.65-percent drop from filings in January. Although more than 4,300 homes became delinquent or foreclosed, the number marked a decrease both from the previous month and from February 2009. Of these postings, more than 1,500 were completed foreclosures and another 1,517 were notices for foreclosure sales.

With one foreclosure posting for every 641 homes in the state, Indiana ranked 17th in a chart of states according to rates of foreclosure.

Indianapolis has been cited for its housing market for the past several years because its median sales price has been fairly stable. In January, the median sales price for existing homes was $60,000, down from $70,000 one year prior. Prices for foreclosed homes sale in Indianapolis also declined.
