Owning a home comes with a lot of responsibility. Part of that is to make simple repairs when needed. You can make simple repairs at home. But you cannot handle everything. What is important is that you know when to ask for permits and when to go on with the project. There are certain repairs at home that require permits. This usually takes place when there are major changes to the home. If your floor plan will change, then you definitely need to get a permit. You do not have to worry about this though if you have a contractor because they will take care of that. Some simple repairs you can do without permits are bathroom faucet and fixture replacements.

Learning how to replace the bathroom faucet is important because it allows us to continue to use it with ease and comfort. If we wait for a plumber to do it, the faucet would leak, wasting water. This can cause damage on the wall and can even attract mold development.

You need to make essential preparations if you are replacing your faucet or installing fixtures. Below are some tips in making such replacements and installations.

  1. Prepare the things you need. Before you start with the replacement and installation, see to it that you have the right tools for the job. Some of the things you will need a wrench, a marker, a rubber gasket and a waterproof tape. In addition to that, you will also need the replacement faucet and the right type of fixture to install.

  2. See to it that you have the right size of the faucet and make sure that you measure the fixtures. Faucet comes in different sizes. Although there is a standard size, the one you have may be smaller or larger than the usual. You need to check it and make sure that you purchase the right replacement. You may also bring the old faucet when you are shopping for a new faucet. For fixtures, see to it that they will fit in the space you intended to install them. Measure the area as well as the fixture a couple of times to be certain.

  3. Turn off the water valve. Do this before installing the faucet. This is important if you do not want a splash of water everywhere. After turning the valve off, drain the remaining water as well.

  4. Seal the base of the faucet. The installation of the faucet is easy. You remove the old faucet and replace it with a new one. However, there are faucets that require to be assembled before they are installed. Follow the manufacturer’s guide. Observe precautionary measures as well to avoid damage on the property and injury while working on this project.

  5. Install the faucets and test it. After you have installed everything, you need to check them. See to it that the fixtures are firmly attached so that they will not fall. This is extremely dangerous if you worked on glasses or mirrors. Check the faucets as well. See to it that there are no leaks.
