Many times, you will find that your garage has turned into a rummage place. You may be stumbling over camping gear, bikes, suitcases and boxes filled with numerous junks and other items while your car sits outside in the driveway, unprotected by rain and the sun. You may consider organizing your garage.

Most people allow junk, tools and various items to pile up in their garages. Usually these items no longer fit in the basement or attic. you will be able to find things fast and restore the main purpose of your garage by organizing it. Below are tips on organizing your garage.

  1. Start organizing by buying at least ten large plastic boxes with lids and begin sorting through things. Throw away unused items, those that you have not used for a while and do not plan to use anymore. Put items into boxes categorizing them according to their uses and you can label them neatly and stack them for easy access.

  2. You may attach cabinets or shelves on the garage wall. They are affordable and are perfect for storing small items that you do not want to lose. You can organize smaller items into a shoebox plastic container and store heavier things on the lower shelves.

  3. You can purchase special claps at your local home depot store or hardware and use them to hang shovels, rakes and brooms on the wall of the garage.

  4. Give your garage a general cleaning to remove cobwebs and other dirt. Provide adequate lighting with easy accessible light switches and replace burned out bulbs right away. Make sure to take out old car parts, batteries and used oil to the nearest recycling center. Do not try to include these with your regular garbage as they could emit harmful residues.

  5. You can store bikes over the hood of your car or hang them on hooks from ceiling to the side of your garage.

  6. If you are really pressed for space, make a low storage platform on the hood of your car slides for storing various items.

  7. Try to consider erecting a vinyl, metal or woodshed in your yard. You can transfer your gardening supplies, tools and the lawn mower from the garage to the shed. Most home supply stores and hardware have ready-to-assemble kits to choose from or you can shop through the internet and purchase one.

  8. Put a mat right next to your car door and make it a habit to wipe your feet when you get in and out of the car. Have another mat in the garage door and practice using it at all times.

  9. Avoid running your motorcycles, cars, snowmobiles, lawn mowers and other gasoline engines inside the garage.

  10. Bolt a two-by-four, which will serve as tire stop or hang a tennis ball from the ceiling so it only hits the windshield every time you pull out of the garage.

Have fun with your clean and beautiful garage by giving your car a thorough wash and wax as well. Keep your car that way by storing it in the garage at all times. Remember that you built your garage for your car and not for storing junks and other things.
