A garden is a great way to spend effort and time. It also helps improve the curb appeal of your home. However, the growth of weeds can lessen the beauty of your landscape.

Weeds are naturally unsightly and lessen the visual stimulus that your home can emit. For that reason, you should carry out the quickest solution to weed control. These days when more and more people are calling for nature preservation, there are proven and effective methods of controlling weeds growth that are environmentally friendly. You would be surprised that these materials can be conveniently found in your kitchen cupboards.

Here are environmentally friendly ways to weeds control:

  1. Fight off weeds by using table salt. Sprinkle a sufficient amount of salt in cracks, crevices, gaps or pavers where weeds grow. The melted salt will create an insufferable condition for the weeds.

  2. You can also use clove oil or other citric oil products, which have the same with weed fighting elements as salt with lesser concentration. Make sure to check out the contents first because they might have lively agents that promote weed growth.

  3. Another great way to prevent weed growth is Corn Gluten Meal. It hinders germination and spread of weeds through delaying the root systems for the development of weeds. Furthermore, it is a more viable product because does not only act as herbicide but also lets nitrogen return to the land or soil which serves as fertilizer to promote a greener and more luscious garden and lawn.

  4. Use mulch, compost or newspapers to control weeds. These materials suffocate the weeds when placed on top of the layer of the garden beds. These should be at least three or four inches thick for a more efficient suffocation. On the other hand, be careful when using mulch or compost because some types may actually provide a weed survival environment.

  5. Another terrific way to kill weeds is using horticultural vinegar. This is available at most home and garden centers, which are stronger in killing weeds and prevent them from growing again. This can be done using roots with a twenty percent concentrated content compared with the five percent component found in regular household vinegars.

  6. You can also use liquid bleach to control weed growth. Add two cups of the bleach to one gallon garden sprayer to keep weeds at bay. This kills the weeds quickly and has an added benefit of bleach, which makes the pavers appear cleaner.

Refrain from using harmful chemical products in controlling and eliminating weeds. Remember that the chemical components of these products can create health hazards to you and the rest of the family and harmful to nature. Practice using eco-friendly methods of controlling weeds. If you decide to apply the steps above, ensure that you use each of them with a few weeks interval. This is important because some components of these items may destroy the pH balance of your soil, making it harmful and uninhabitable even with your own plants.
