The bathroom is one of the most important areas of the house. In fact, this is one of the first rooms that home buyers check when they look for a new house to buy. Bathrooms have evolved over the years. Before, it was just a place where one wants to clean up and refresh. Now, it is more than that. Many have transformed their bathrooms to a more sophisticated spa-like look. Although it is a great investment, it comes with disadvantages as well. These types of bathrooms have high humidity level with poor ventilation. Such can cause a lot of problems.

Ventilation is important because it can prevent several problems. More and more are becoming aware of this, which is why manufacturers are developing better systems that will ventilate bathrooms better. This is also a sign that proper ventilation in the bathroom needs ample attention.

What happens when the humidity is too high?

A humid area is an ideal place for mildews and molds to develop. What is so troublesome about these organisms, you may ask. These small organisms may not look harmful at first glance, but they can lead to allergies and serious health problems. In addition to that, they damage your bathrooms too. It also affects the value of your home, which is not a good news if you intend to sell it in the future.

What can you do to ventilate your bathroom?

Several products in the market can help you. Vent fans are available in many forms. Pick one that is most suitable for your bathroom. There is the bath fan. This is normally installed on the ceiling of the bathroom and utilizes pipes to direct the mildew out of the house. There are also remote fans. You can either install them on ceiling or at the basement, depending on what is more convenient. Instead of using pipes, it makes use of ducts to eliminate mildew from the bathroom. This is also recommended for those who have several bathrooms in their house.

Ventilators with multiple ports are great for big bathrooms. Many find them ideal because they do not create a lot of noise. This is because the system is not installed in the bathroom.

Although there are homes that have ventilators, there are also those that do not have one. There are several areas in the country that do not require this when building a bathroom. Some would say that having a bathroom window is enough. However, you will not be able to open the window during the cold weather. This means that it will not be able to ventilate when the weather is cold.

Aside from installing vent fans, you should also make sure that you use them properly. Many install vents but they do not direct the air out. See to it that the air is vented out of the house and not just redirected it in other rooms. Additionally, vent fans have to be turned on at least twenty minutes after the bathroom is used. To make sure that you do not forget it, use those with timers.

Ventilation is definitely important in your bathroom. If you do not want to deal with health problems and bathroom deterioration in the future, see to it that you check its ventilation.
