Many dream of having a pool in their property. This is because of the benefits it gives. It allows family to bond. It is also a great place to stay fit as swimming is one of the best exercises. Since having a pool is a dream come true for most, it is only right that you take care of it. This will ensure that your pool will last for a long time. Pool care and maintenance is also a great way to prevent incurring expensive repairs. So make sure that you do your part.

Here are some helpful tips to properly maintain your pool. There are other maintenance tips you need to do, but these are among the most important things.

Clean your pool

It is important that you keep your pool clean. Debris of all sorts can easily get to it. This is especially true during strong rain and wind. Leaves, insects, small stones and the like can get to your pool with ease. They cannot be fully avoided so make sure that you remove them regularly to avoid them from filling up your pool. Cover your pool as well to minimize the amount of debris that gets to your pool. Aside from the debris, you should also clean your pool by brushing and by vacuuming it.

Clean your pool equipment

In order to keep your pool clean, you also have to make sure that the cleaning tools you use are also clean. Clean the filter basket as well as the other cleaning devices before using them.

Check the water

There are various elements you need to check in your pool water. First, you need to check the pH level. You also need to check its alkalinity and chlorine. The right pH level of water is around 7.4 to 7.6. The right pH level is important because it will prevent irritation. The alkalinity level has to be observed as well. It has to be between 100 to 150ppm. The alkalinity affects the stability of the pH, which is very important. Chlorine on the other hand is also essential because it wards off bacteria that can contaminate the water.

Let a pro check it regularly

There are steps you can do on your own. However, it is also essential that you ask a professional to check your pool quarterly. Ask him to check the water because although there are test kits that you can use, professionals have a more advance equipment. Once they have checked your pool water, compare it with your findings. If there are significant difference, seek advice on what you need to do.

Shock your pool regularly

This is important to ensure that the contaminants in your pool are dealt with properly. The chlorine is great for fighting bacteria and other contaminants. However, its effects fades over time. Shocking the pool will prepare the chlorine to fight the contaminants. You can use the different shock treatments available in the market today. Make sure that you do not use the pool, 24 hours after shocking it.

You love having a pool in your yard. But having a pool is not all about fun and games. You also need to bear in mind that there are maintenance steps you need to take.
