Whether you want to start a serious collection of wines or want to have a proper wine storage system, the best way you can go for is to invest in a wine cellar. Your basement may have qualities vital to sustain storing wines. Take a look at this space and see if it is up to par to serve such function. Anyway there are stress-free ways to convert this area into a great wine cellar.

Make up your mind with regards to the design and look of your desired cellar. Envision how many bottles would be in it. Draft a rough plan including details of the storage facilities. You can also designate a wine tasting room incorporated in the space.

Be very particular in all the items you would include in it. The materials and furnishings that would be used and placed in the cellar should be noted down so you will have a grasp of the total project cost. You should also factor in the labor expenses. Are you capable of doing the construction on your own? Do you prefer hiring a professional contractor?

To have a more useful budget plan, scout for materials from online and local wine storage supply stores. Through these venues, you can easily compare the costs of a particular item like a wine rack. In addition, you would also be updated with the current trends of the most efficient and stylish storage facilities.

Be careful in opting to do it yourself as this project is a major one and there are many factors to be considered other than simply getting wine racks. To help you get started, here are some basic wine cellar construction requirements:

The ideal room temperature should be between 55 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit, with humidity level between 60 and 70 percent. If the temperature would be lower or higher than the mentioned setting, wines stored in such room would taste flat. So you can comply with this requirement, install any of the following air conditioner wall unit, split system for temperature and humidity control or duct system.

You should also frame the basement walls to make the room more suitable for stocking wines. Lumber is the common material used for wall framing. The floors should also be improved. Furring strips and foam insulation are ideal materials to mask cold floors. Also consider having moisture-resistant flooring material like hardwood or tile.

To address excessive moisture, give further protection to the walls and floor by having new insulation. R19 wall insulation and R30 ceiling insulation are best to use. A vapor barrier typically in form of 6 or 8 mil plastic sheeting can boost the insulation of the room.

There are other important things to consider if you want to install a wine tasting room adjacent to the wine storage area. There should be sufficient electricity supply to support the cooling system. Any lighting fixture and furniture included in the room should have materials that do not upset the room temperature. Light bulbs with high wattage or voltage emit excessive heat. Heavily upholstered chairs mass up sweat, which can then cause the room to be damper.

Take these suggestions in order to create a wine cellar equipped with apposite standards.
