As a homeowner, you should be aware that the items and things around y our house would have to be replaced in time. This is the reason why it is extremely important that you are knowledgeable in fixing or replacing things up. There are several replacements and repairs that you can do yourself.

One of the things that you as a homeowner should have an idea is how to fix bathroom faucets and other fixtures. When replacing them on your own, make sure that the plumbing system in the house is not affected.

Learning to replace and fix these things is necessary during emergency cases and at night when it is difficult to contact a plumber right away.

Following are ways of replacing and fixing your bathroom faucets and fixtures:

  1. Always measure the fixtures and faucets that you are planning to replace. The best way is to remove them and bring it along to the home depot or hardware store to find the exact size and type.

  2. When replacing fixtures in the bathroom, you should use only the right tools. Determine if there is an access panel behind the fixture in order for you to remove it. Be ready with the necessary tools when you start replacing the fixtures and faucets.

  3. Make preparations on the things you need before you start with the work. You will need marker, pliers, wrench, tape, rubber gasket and the faucet or fixture.

  4. Make a plan on what you should do. There are things you have to check before you begin. First, ensure that you have the correct faucet and that the fixtures fit well. When updating your faucet, make sure that is fits the sink perfectly. Plan ahead to ensure that you finish on time.

  5. Before removing any faucets, make sure to close the valves. Let the remaining water drain. This safety measures are necessary to prevent splashing water all over the bathroom or the kitchen for that matter.

  6. When installing fixtures, it is necessary to measure the area and ensure that they fit. Use markers to find out the exact area to drill a hole. Check out with the manufacturer before installing faucets, especially if they still have to be assembled before they could be installed. Make sure to seal the base when you replace the faucet to avoid leaking. Use waterproof tape if you have flexible faucets.

  7. If your feed pipes are copper made, it would be more easy to detach it from the faucet fittings. However, sometimes these copper fittings could get rusty and old and could give you trouble when you attempt to unscrew them. Be careful in detaching them since this could cause damage if too much effort is exerted to remove it.

Replacing faucets and fixtures on your own is quite easy so long as you have the correct tools and the exact size of faucet. Make sure to measure the area when adding fixtures and see to it that the fixtures fit. Care is needed when installing bathroom faucets and fixtures because you might end up with water leak if you are not careful. Keep in mind that severe water leak could damage your property.
