Keeping your Pool safe

Owning a swimming pool is undeniably a wonderful way to relax, have fun and enjoy not just during summer but all throughout the year. For this reason, it is of vital importance to make your pool safe at all times to avoid injuries and accidents from happening. Pool areas are the most prone to accidents happening. Here are several tips on how to keep your pool safe all the time.

  1. Ensure that you have a fence around the pool and if there are gates, they should be locked when the area is not in use. Either the fence could be a part of a bigger enclosure or it could merrily be surrounding the area of the pool.

  2. Remove toys and other objects on the pool walkway to avoid the risk of tripping and other accidents.

  3. Make sure to mark the water depth on the edge of the pool. This way, those who are swimming in the pool for the first time will have a better idea whether the depth of the water is over their heads or too narrow for diving in.

  4. Point out to swimmers that there will be no running allowed in the pool walkway. Posting a sign is a great idea and you can verbally communicate to everyone using the pool.

  5. Maintain a mount and a life ring near the swimming pool. Notwithstanding whether you have a small pool, children and adults who do not know how to swim could still throw a life ring to someone in the water having a hard time swimming. Life rings symbolize help for whoever needs it. Although life rings are cheap, they prove to be invaluable in saving lives.

  6. You can have a phone installed near the area of the pool so you can call on help right away in case of emergency and maintain other useful tools nearby. You may choose to install a pool house to store all-important things you need in the pool.

  7. Pool alarms are another great way to ensure safety in the pool area. They can detect any object falling into the water or if someone is splashing around as long as they are installed properly. Find alarms that have two units, one hanging into the water and the other on a separate remote unit. They could sound an alarm when there is moderate disturbance in the pool water. The remote should be inside the house where it can be heard right away.

  8. You may also put up strong pool covers or safety nets. They are very useful in case a child falls accidentally on the water. Instead of landing directly on the water, he or she will only fall into the pool cover, thus preventing him or her from drowning. Pool covers also help in maintaining your pool and keeping it free from dirt and debris.

    9. Always keep a safety chemical level in the water. The pH level should be around 7.2 to 7.6, the alkaline between 80 to 120 parts per million ppm. Depending on what kind of chemical you are going to use in the pool, the level of chlorine should read from 1 to 3 ppm and the bromine between 2-4 ppm.

These tips will help in ensuring that your pool is safe for you and the family to enjoy this summer.
