Fruits and vegetables are our best sources of vitamins and nutrients needed by our human bodies to maintain health and well being. Most of the antioxidant products comes from fruits; and most of the complex carbohydrates come from vegetables. But our access to these commodities is not getting easier especially those organically grown ones. The commercially grown fruits and vegetables nowadays are somewhat contaminated because of the chemicals being used in its production. So then, growing your own fruits and vegetables is not a bad idea these days.

Growing your own fruit and vegetable at home has a big advantage. Just think of the convenience and savings you will have; most of all the health benefits that it will give you. It can also help you use your available space in your yard or lawn. You will have nutritious and healthy food on your table most of the time. This will also lessen your trip to the market to buy these foodstuffs. Your whole household will surely benefit from this project. Not only in terms of food will you benefit from it, but also in terms of physical appearance of your house.

Edible landscaping is a style of gardening that can improve the appearance of your house through planting fruit trees and vegetables instead of flowers. If properly arranged and designed this can create a beautiful landscape in its appearance.

Considering the kind of plants to grow is not quite easy to make. There are many choices, all have their own characteristics. You must also consider the appearance aspect of this project. Not only for food consideration should you do this but you must also look at the landscaping and improvement value that it will give your house. Remember, that your guests and most house buyers will always look at the landscaping feature of the house. If your edible landscaping garden is properly done, it can add more value to your house.

Growing plants that you or your family does not eat is a futile thing to do. Select plants that you can use for food, or better still get your favorite ones. If you plan to put in some herbs and spices, set aside a portion in your edible garden for these kinds of plants. Have an organized arrangement of your plants, so that it will not look messy. You can group those veggies and fruits that you love to eat always and separate those you occasionally use. Growing tomatoes, bell peppers and the likes will not only provide nutritious food but can also make your garden attractive and colorful and lovely to look at.

Your plants should last for a long time. Do not plant those sensitive ones that wither easily because of weather change. Neither should you plant those hard-to-take-care types because these can wear out your patience and you might end up losing them all later.

Of course proper maintenance on any kind of garden is a must. Unwanted weeds should always be removed. Fertilizing and watering should be done consistently making sure that the proper amount is given at the right time. Avoid the use of harmful chemicals; always opt for the organic type of nutrients for your plants. If possible, you can make your own compost pile at home. They are also available commercially in the market.

Edible landscaping is really a nice thing to undertake. Aside from the nutritious and healthy food that it can give, it can also improve the appearance of your house. It is really a very rewarding endeavor.
