Sacramento is the capital of California and is the seventh largest city in the state. Nicknamed “River City” because of its location at the confluence of the Sacramento River and the American River in California's expansive Central Valley. The city had a population of 486,189 and occupied 99.2 square miles as per the 2010 census carried out by the US Census Bureau.

A center for economic and cultural activity, Sacramento derived its name from years of Spanish rule and has a deepwater port. It is the shipping and rail center for the Sacramento Valley, fruit, vegetables, rice, wheat, dairy goods, and beef. Food processing is among the major industries in the area. The city has a Mediterranean climate that is characterized by cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers. Despite being racially and ethnically diverse, Sacramento has a notable lack of interracial disharmony. A seat for higher education, Sacramento houses two major universities viz. California State University and the University of California.

Sacramento is a treasure trove for tourists. You can begin with Modesto. Located at the heart of California's central San Joaquin Valley and surrounded by fertile farmlands that produce dairy products, fruits, nuts, and other resources for the country, Modesto is a small town at heart, with a growing population that appreciates the escape from the larger urban areas nearby. The Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley are California's Wine Country, home to some of the most famous vineyards in the world. Touring the vineyards and wine tasting are the most popular attractions here, but the fantastic surroundings are great for anything from hot air ballooning to bicycling to picnic lunches.
