Heating water is actually considered as the third most energy-consuming activity in every household. This chore or action is often and long been done that it is easy to take for granted the factors surrounding it and how it impacts the household. However, with the right type of water heater serving your household, you may find that you can save a lot of money, time, and energy.

How would you determine if your water heater needs to be replaced? There are subtle as well as obvious ways to find out.

Perhaps the most basic thing you should ask is how long the water heater has been around. The age of any device or equipment determines the quality of function. Different types of water heater also have different expected periods by which they may work efficiently. The more recent type of water heater is the Tank-less ones. As the latest model in the market, it is also the most improved so that it is expected to efficiently work longer. However, gas water heaters are expected to function at best at eight to twelve years while the electric models at ten to fifteen years.

Does the water coming out of the water heater rusty in color? Is the water no longer as hot as it normally was in the first few years you have used the water heater? These two are the most conspicuous indications that your water already needs to be replaced.

You should also check for any sign of moisture at the base of bottom of the water heater. Moisture in the bottom of the water heater could mean that there is a slow leak in the heater. Showers of ice cold water and flooding in the surrounding area of the water heater are the most urgent indicators that your water heater needs replacement.

When you have already come to the conclusion that you need to replace your water, it is time to move onto the next step. What kind of water should you get?

It is more practical to get the same model or type of water heater as your previous one. However, it is noteworthy to know that the recently improved models, which are the tank-less water heaters, function more efficiently and has more advantages than the old models. For instance, there would be no need for a large tank of hot water to occupy a significant room or area in your basement or laundry room. Also, you will just have to heat water whenever you need to.

Some areas, tax credits and incentives are even given to families who buy and install qualified water heaters. The Energy Policy Act provides $3000 worth of tax credit to whoever would buy these energy efficient water heaters.

It is also notable to add that warm, not hot water, improves the smoothness and appearance of the skin.

Whether to replace your water heater or not is for you to determine, just be sure to select the most efficient working type as you will be using it long.
