Pets are lovable creatures to have in the home, but lovable as they are, they sometimes can become our pet peeves because of their carefree behavior. This can happen when pets are not trained to know the limits of the area allowed to them.

Training your pet to have his or her own space in the home depends on the type of pet you have. Some pets do not need a lot of space. Dogs and cats need a good amount of space to move around. Birds and fish need only a few square inches of space to settle down.

If you have a pet cat, it will be quite difficult to restrict it from going out of bounds since cats are very inquisitive creatures. They love to climb on all sorts of furniture and they scratch them to mark their territory. This is why it is important for us to give them their own space. You can introduce it to a small box with soft base. This gives it a sense of security and comfort. You can improve its space gradually. You can give it an area where it can nap.

It is essential that you cat-proof your home. There are hazards for your cats in the home; this includes poisonous plants; cords that can be a threat to their safety. Remove the said plants from the house or replace them with safer plants. They love to play with cords but they can get tangled too. Keep your electrical cords as well. Aside from the fact that it can tangle them, it can also cause electrocution. Keep breakables out of their sight. Aside from the breakables, protect your furniture by covering them.

Dogs are the most common pets in a household because as they say they are man’s best friend. They are very ubiquitous if unleashed and they can hardly be restricted in one area unless you put them on leash or in a doghouse. One of the best ways to give your dog his own space is the dog kennel. There are several types of kennels in the market. You can even assemble your own. Make sure that you choose one depending on the size of your dog and its activity level. Dogs are full of energy and they need ample space to move around. A kennel may look restricting, but this will not be the case if you take time to walk your dog and play with him. If you do not have enough space, you can take your dog inside your home and provide him with his own bed.

Training your dog to move around inside your home with some restrictions is difficult to do but with patience and determination, it is worthwhile in the end for you and your pet dog.

One observation though with dogs, they really need to move around very often to keep them healthy physically and mentally and strong; if you keep them on leash or in kennels most of the time, they tend to become grouchy and in bad mood most of the time. This can become a problem for you especially if you have children at home.
