Fourteen percent of Dundee’s population are students, making Dundee Scotland’s top student city. A quarter of students in Scotland choose their place of study based on the cost of living and proximity to their home. For these reasons Dundee is proving to be a very popular city for students and it is known as the most cost effective city for students in Scotland.

In past years, many students had been choosing to live in university owned halls of residence, however due to cuts in university funding, a shortage of university accommodation and record numbers of students choosing to study at university, private rental properties are becoming increasingly popular for students, offering more space and a better standard of living.

There are many excellent locations for students to locate within Dundee. Dundee’s West End is home to a vast majority of the student population due to its close proximity to both the University of Dundee and the University of Abertay Dundee. It is mainly a residential area and is home to a variety of bars, café’s, specialist shops, restaurants and boutiques.

Situated to the north of Dundee City Centre are Baxter Park and Stobswell, these areas are located within short walking distance from the city centre and provide easy access to The University of Abertay Dundee and Dundee College. There are excellent transport services from this area travelling in and around the city.

The City Centre is also a sought after area for students to reside, two thirds of the city centre’s residents are students, which is no surprise due to its close proximity to Dundee’s two universities, as well as a variety of shops, restaurants and bars on offer in the area.

There are two main railway stations in Dundee, as well as several smaller stations situated around the city allowing students the opportunity to travel back and forth easily to their home and university.

As well as this, there are a variety of leisure facilities available in Dundee, with several health and fitness centre’s and clubs available, many offering student discount. There is also a huge variety of high street stores situated within the city centre and in Dundee’s shopping centres.

Dundee is a very student friendly city with a lot to offer to students. Students have the choice of several areas to rent property in Dundee, whether they want to live in the hustle and bustle of the city centre, or the quieter surrounding suburbs. There are a variety of houses and flats to rent in Dundee to choose from, of all shapes and sizes to suit every students taste.
