Choosing the right doorbell is often one of those tasks we don’t really give enough attention to. For example, what if your home is big and a normal doorbell ringer won’t be heard? or what if you are hard of hearing? Getting the right doorbell is often more important than you think.

Tips for choosing a doorbell for your home:

  1. Consider The Type Of Doorbell - In most homes the doorbell is wired, so your first option is always to replace the current doorbell with a similar fitted doorbell. The difficult job might be finding the right doorbell to fit the old fixtures, otherwise you’ll need new fixtures which will make the new doorbell expensive. Another option which is becoming more and more popular is to use a wireless doorbell which uses radio waves instead of wires. The benefit of using this type of doorbell, is that fixtures are easy to install and even move around. In some cases you can purchase another bell which is useful if your home is large and one bell is not enough.

  2. Consider Extra Loud Bell - For the hard of hearing or for large homes, a normal standard bell will not provide the amplification levels needed. Often knocking on the door won’t be heard so getting the right sound from your doorbell is important. In such cases look for a doorbell which has an extra loud sound, preferably adjustable sound so it won’t be too loud but loud enough based on what you need.

  3. Consider Visual Alerter - For the deaf, those with profound hearing loss or for noisy homes/work-places a doorbell with flashing lights is often the solution. There are a number of suppliers who are experts at manufacturing these types of doorbells.

It is important to get the right doorbell so you are alerted to the door when needed.
British company Geemarc has produced a doorbell which is extra loud and includes flashing lights. The Geemarc cl2 doorbell is a fantastic solution for the hard of hearing and as a doorbell for large homes.
