Meanwhile, if you have been gardening, then this might be the best time to make use of that activity and efficiently get rid of these pesky pests.

Natural Bug Control Methods

We always underestimate the force of nature, whereas in most cases we should be looking to nature to supply the answers. The same goes with pest prevention. Most people would primarily think of bug killer as the only means of controlling when they start to attack. However, herbs and plants can now be utilized to present natural means of controlling.

Herbs can effectively put an end to your problems with pests. This might not sound feasible but biology can explain everything. Pests have natural enemies in nature, so you must take advantage of this to fully rid yourself of these.

Herbs and plants contain active ingredients that can disrupt the system of most rats. Not only that, it ensures faster kill for these annoying rats and insects.

Herbs That Fight Off pests

If you want to fully rid your home of pests, you can drop by your local supermarket. Add the following items to your shopping list and you will soon eliminate most if not all of your pest problems:

In your fight to keep your house pest-free, you need to know what types of herbs are effective against certain types of rats. Planting bug-killing herbs in your garden will bring you the following practical benefits:

  1. Herbs have many uses besides bug control such as aromatic and medicinal.

  2. You can save money from not having to purchase expensive pesticides that do not work.

  3. You reduce the health risks posed by your exposure to harmful chemicals contained in the pesticides.

Mint as Bug Control

When thinking about which herbs to plant in your garden, mint should secure the top of your list. Be sure to examine what the different varieties of mint are most effective:

  • Peppermint - this particular type of mint effectively controls lice, ants, flies, moths, and lice.

  • Pennyroyal - this type of mint deals with rats such as gnats, lice, moths, ticks, and ants.

  • Spearmint - this one wards off most of the pests listed above.

Mints have proven themselves extremely effective against the listed above so be sure to plant them in areas where they will be most effective e.g. near doorways leading outside. This should stop these pests from coming inside. Because mints have the tendency to grow out of control, it is best to plant them in a pot.

Mints are extremely easy to grow, they will do well in both shade and sun. However, you do have to keep them moist if you want to keep them healthy.

Basil as Insect Control

Basil is a common herb used for culinary purposes. However, it is also a herb that effectively controls rats, particularly the bush basil. Basil keeps away flies very well. This is used by the Italians - they keep and grow tomatoes and basil together so that the flies do not attack the fresh juicy tomatoes.

For planting basil (as with mint), you can plant it by the doorway. This way your home will be filled with the lovely smell of basil while fighting off flies at the same time.

Citronella as Insect Control

If you are currently in an ongoing battle against mosquitoes, then planting Citronella might finally put an end to the problem. You can use its essential oil and the scent it produces to permeate your direct surroundings. To do that, simply mix a few drops of the Citronella's essential oil. The smell produced will be very unpleasant to the mosquitoes and they will be discouraged to come anywhere near your house.

You must concentrate on the entrance of the house to lessen the possibility of invading your entire home. Then, pour some drops of the oil into the hems of the curtains. If the curtains are blown by the wind, it will carry that smell which drives the mosquitoes away.
