Vinyl Lettering is fantastic, you just can't deny it. It's an affordable and easy way to put just a little pizazz in your room or office. You can customize it to say whatever you want, and work it into your room's existing decor. But now that you have the vinyl lettering in your hand you're questioning if this was as easy as you first thought, right? Where can you place it? How do you make certain that it seems like it should? How do you take it down once you've determined it is time to switch it out? Don't worry, here are some ground rules for working with vinyl lettering.

Once you obtain your vinyl lettering, it's going to consist of three distinct layers:

  1. Backing Paper: this is smooth plastic like paper that the vinyl letters lay on top of.

  2. Vinyl: that is the precise lettering that will be applied to the wall or surface.

  3. Application Tape: this resembles masking tape in appearance and feel, although it's a lot larger and is placed over the vinyl.

The lettering shall be sandwiched between the backing paper and the application tape.

Decide the place you are going to apply the lettering. Do not forget that vinyl lettering can only be applied to hard surfaces, such as walls, wood, steel, metal, glass, mirrors, autos, hard plastic, or every other surface that's hard and relatively smooth.

Ensure that the floor that you're applying the vinyl to is clean. Wash it the world off with cleaning soap and water, or if applying to a car, rubbing alcohol. In case you are making use of the lettering to a painted surface, be sure that the paint is totally dry and is not tacky to the touch.

Prior to attempting to apply the lettering to the surface, make sure that there aren't any bubbles between the vinyl layer and the application layer. Take a flat clean edge, similar to a credit card, or flat edge plastic putty knife, and rub the application tape in order that smoothly with the tip of the putty knife or bank card till you'll be able to clearly see the lettering through the application layer and no bubbles exist over any of the vinyl.

Place the lettering on the surface you wish to apply it to with the backing paper closest to the surface. Make sure you center the lettering according to the placement of the letters, and not the side of the backing paper. Apply masking tape all the way across the top of the vinyl lettering to keep it in place on the wall or surface. The masking tape will function as a hinge, permitting you to lift the lettering until it is upside down on the surface with the backing paper nearest you. Slowly peel the backing paper away from the vinyl lettering. Make sure that all the letters are on the application tape, if you're missing any parts of the lettering, place the application tape back onto backing paper and rub again with the bank card or plastic putty knife, and repeat the method of peeling the backing paper.

After getting all of the letters on the application tape, take away the backing paper from the masking tape. Pull the application tape tight to make sure there aren't any wrinkles within the lettering. Place the application tape on the surface while pulling the application tape tightly. Use the bank card or plastic putty knife to rub the application tape thoroughly.

Slowly peel off of the application tape from the surface. If any part of the vinyl begins to come back off with the application tape, reapply the application tape to the surface and rub the tape with the bank card or putty knife.

Please do not forget that vinyl lettering will not be reusable, so as soon as it is removed from the surface, it cannot be reapplied, so please be careful.

In the event you must remove the lettering, you'll be able to peel away the vinyl using your fingernails in most cases. Nonetheless, if the lettering is sticking too tightly to the surface for your fingernails to remove, you'll be able to warmth up the vinyl lettering utilizing a hair dryer on a low heat setting to warm up the adhesive glue on the vinyl lettering, then merely peel the vinyl lettering away from the surface while the glue is still warm.
