What is important is that you know what these materials are. First, they are environmentally friendly. This means that they are not made of materials that can be harmful o the environment. They should not have harmful effects on the environment when destroyed, especially in the case of fire.

It is preferred that these materials are locally produced, so that they will not consume a lot of energy and fuel traveling them to your home. Besides, locally grown or made materials are cheaper.

Have plants at home. If you have enough space, you can plant a tree. This will provide you shade, thus, regulating the heat at home. This can also protect your property from harsh environmental elements. Just regularly check the branches and make sure that they do not touch the roof to avoid the problems. Additionally, trees provide clean air. This will make your home more refreshing.

Aside from trees, you can use ornamental plants for your landscape. This will not only add beauty to your home but this will also have good effects on the environment. Having an organic garden is also a great way to have a green home. Growing your own food without the use of toxic substances to eliminate pests is such a big contribution in making our planet a safer and healthier place.

A compost pit is also a nice way to keep your home green. If you have plants at home, you will definitely deal with leaves. Instead of burning them, make a compost pit. You can use that compost from the pit in your garden. This will nourish the soil that will give you healthier produce.

You can also use energy efficient devices. Replace your light bulbs that produce heat instead of light. There are a lot of energy efficient lights in the market today. You can also take advantage of natural light so that you will not need to switch on the light during the day. Do the same for your appliances. Old appliances consume more electricity. This is why it is best to replace them with new and more energy efficient devices.
