A new coat of paint for your home interiors could make it look new. Applying fresh paint to your old home could bring out its best. Everything could look bright and lovely. In the end, you can enjoy the home that you used to love.

However, application of new paint can take a lot of work. If you do it on your own, you really have to be careful on how to apply it. If done incorrectly, you may end up with a disastrous look. It could take up your time fixing the problem.

Common Problems in Painting

Various problems can come your way with incorrect application of paint. One common problem may occur if you fail to address the moisture problems before its application. Peeling, flaking, blisters and alligatoring can occur.

Yellowing is also another problem. This is supposed to be occurring when paint has aged but it could also happen in a new paint job due to oxidation, exposure to heat producing appliances or if you happened to choose low quality paint.

You may also encounter wrinkling. It is attributed to application of too much paint in one area. It can also happen if you apply it in humid areas of the house or if the surface of application is dirty.

Touch Ups for Your Painting Problem

You would normally want to avoid these problems but if it becomes inevitable, here are some solutions to perfect the paint job:

  1. Peeling- Simply fix any leaks or problematic caulks to avoid seeping of water from gutters and cracked areas. You also need to have good ventilation when re-applying paint. The key is to remove moisture. Clean the area, level the surface by sanding and reapply the paint. You also need to use good quality paint and observe for recurrence in days.

  2. Flaking- All you have to do is to remove the flake, level the area with the use of sand, prime the area and use a good quality top coat.

  3. Blisters- Blisters can be fixed when you do the same solution as suggested with peeling problem.

  4. Alligatoring or checking- Do the same solutions of peeling and blisters, but this time you have to clean the area of application thoroughly and allow it to dry properly. If you plan to apply paint on a glossy finish, try to dull it down by sanding the area first.

  5. Yellowing- Simply use the best latex paints. You can ask the personnel at the paint store to get an idea if the paint reacts with varnish. If you happen to paint areas that has less exposure to sun, it is best to use Alkyd paints.

  6. Wrinkling- Do the same process for peeling but during re-application evenly apply the coat. Make sure you do not apply it too thickly.

From the looks of it, it takes a lot of work when you mess up your interior's paint job. Imagine the effort you have to exert to sand, clean and reapply paint. You also have to go another waiting time for the drying process. Doing all these things could be tough for anyone who's busy. Therefore, it is fairly important to know how to paint a particular area properly before jumping to any DIY projects for painting.
