Home and garden tips were offered generously to those who attended the Home and Garden Show held in Henderson, Kentucky. Although the number of attendees was below organizers' expected turnout, the people behind the event remain optimistic about similar succeeding events.

According to the organizers of the show, the low turnout might have been due to the fact that it was the first time that the event was held. For those who did come to the show, a total of 58 booths were present to offer products, information and advice related to home keeping and gardening.

There were booths highlighting roofing and gutter supplies that can prove beneficial to people aiming to save water used in their homes and gardens. There were also lighting booths that offer energy efficient bulbs meant to help save energy. A workshop by Russ Pogue, in collaboration with Kenergy, touched upon this energy efficient lighting systems.

The workshop offered home and garden tips that can help promote energy efficiency, including the use of fluorescent lights. According to Pogue, fluorescent bulbs are more energy efficient and produce more light than incandescent lights with the energy requirement for both types being just the same. He also revealed that fluorescent lighting can last longer than other types of lighting and produces only 20% of heat compared with incandescent and other lighting systems.

Another focus of the home care tips offered during the event concerns insulation. The use of an insulating jacket has been recommended for use in water heaters. The jacket is supposed to reduce heat loss by as much as 30% and will allow homeowners to lower their utility bills by almost 5%. The jackets reportedly cost between $20 and $30.

For households with gas heaters, a professional is needed when installing insulation jackets as such water heaters entail a more complicated procedure. Households opting to insulate their water heaters are advised to also insulate their water pipes to save more energy.

These are just some of the Home and garden tips offered during the event. Experts who held workshops during the show stated that such tips will go a long way towards helping households, particularly in a time when most homeowners are facing potential foreclosures.
