Everyone deserves a home. This is the motivation of Max Rameau, an average Joe who defends a cause for the less fortunate in need of shelter. He and a band of supporters sharing similar opinion formed an organization called Take Back the Land, with a mission to find homeless people a place to live. And their target locations… foreclosed homes.

Thus far, he was responsible for moving some families into foreclosed homes and has a list of more families to help. Rameau and his fellow advocates provide such assistance to homeless people and said that they are doing this on their own free of charge. Recently, he moved a 39 year old woman and her 18-month old daughter, who was homeless for a year, in a vacated ranch home. Rameau knew the status of the house he chooses for homeless people to shelter, and targets properties that went to foreclosure.

Rameau, is a computer consultant, and believes he is doing a favor to the owner. He said moving these unfortunate people into vacated properties that went to foreclosure is just like putting a caretaker in it.

City officials are not aware of his activity, but so far they are not stopping him.

Homeless people moving in foreclosure homes are increasing in every part of the country while the housing market remains on a slump.

Florida foreclosures caused a tremendous effect in Miami, a state that was once had a thriving condo market until it was hit by national housing crisis, which is mainly attributed to overbuilding and conjecture. The rate of Florida foreclosures came to a record last September, ranked second in national foreclosure rate.

The city of Miami is making a move to alleviate problems related with foreclosures by launching a program that would prevent foreclosure which will give a hand to homeowners who have troubled mortgage, with loan assistance as high as $7,500 for each household. Officials have approved a regulation calling for owners to register their relinquished homes and empty ones for better monitoring.
