Cheap furniture no longer has the stigma of past decades, where low prices often equated to shoddy workmanship. Now it's possible to furnish every room in your home with cheap, stylish furniture that's built to last, including your bedroom.

Your bed is one of the most important pieces of furniture in your home, and the one you're likely to spend the most time using. Getting a good night's sleep is essential for your health and comfort, so finding a bed frame and mattress that offer all the support you need may be the most important decision you make when furnishing your private abode.

This makes it important not to be too swayed by price alone when shopping for your new bedroom furniture, as sometimes the lowest deals may come at a cost of longevity - meaning you might need to replace your worn-out bed and mattress within a few short years. Fortunately, there are many places you can find great quality beds suited to all budgets, and when you shop with larger suppliers you'll also usually find a greater degree of freedom in choosing styles.

To avoid making bad purchases, it can be highly useful to learn some key facts about bedroom furniture before you set off on your shopping trip. Learning the differences between metal and wooden bed frames, for example, could help you design your ideal room, as each material has its respective advantages. For metal frames, iron and aluminium are the strongest materials, while wooden frames in pinewood or hardwood may prove much more durable than lighter materials.

The size of your bed is another important consideration, not only for making sure it can fit through the doorway, but also for ensuring you have enough floor space. King size beds can be tempting, but even if you will be sharing your bed with a partner, you will often find that regular double beds are just as comfortable - as well as cheaper.

Bedroom furniture means more than just beds, of course, as you'll also have to consider your storage needs. The size of your bedroom will help determine just how many cabinets, wardrobes and bedside tables can fit comfortably into the space, and by spending time comparing colour palettes, walking around showrooms or simply visiting the homes of friends and other family members, you could soon be bursting with ideas for your dream bedroom that won't break the bank.
