The condo lifestyle isn’t for everyone. It may not be the best choice if you enjoy mowing your lawn or tending your garden, shoveling your driveway or landscaping your yard. For those looking to simply their lives, though, condo living is a great option. Following are the top five ways it accomplishes just that.

Less maintenance
No more mowing the lawn, shoveling the sidewalk or raking leaves. No more pruning the bushes, cleaning out the eaves or wondering when it’s time for new shingles. When you live in a condo building, most of the maintenance is done for you. Your only responsibility in that regard: write a check each month to your homeowners association.

Proximity
Many condo buildings are built in urban areas. Everything the city life offers is just outside your door. Within walking distance, you’ll probably find an abundance of restaurants and nightclubs, sports, art and music venues, as well as plenty of places to shop.

Less room for stuff
There’s a big difference between a sprawling single-family home and a condo – you can’t accumulate stuff in the latter like you can in the former. So long as you choose the right condo for yourself – after all, you know best about what your daily existence requires – you’ll have plenty of room for everything you need. At the same time, you’ll think twice about acquiring things that in the future would just end up in boxes or in the trash.

Commuting
Those horror stories you hear about bumper-to-bumper traffic and hours long commutes? They’re generally not told by people who live in an urban condo, unless they’re relating a story from their past. For many people – especially young professionals – condo living is a way to nearly eliminate their commute. They may not be able to work from home, but taking a few minutes to walk or bike to work is the next best thing. If their office is just a little too far for that, most urban condo buildings aren’t far from public transportation of some sort.

Travel
Even if you live for your job, taking a vacation is a great way to recharge your batteries and clear your mind. But getting everything ready around home so you can go on vacation – and then worrying about your home while you’re gone – can sometimes negate the positive effects. Condo owners don’t have such worries. Whether they’re home or not, the lawn will get mowed and the snow will get shoveled. When they close the door to leave, they can focus totally on getting the most of their vacation.
