Condos and Lofts For Young Professionals

For many young professionals, there may not be anywhere better to live than in a loft or condo. A strong statement, perhaps, but there’s just so much about loft and condo living that is particularly well suited to these young people just getting started with their careers.

Here are the top 10 reasons why young professionals might consider a loft or condo.

Many young professionals work in metropolitan areas, which also is where most lofts and condos are located. Living in a condo or loft that is close to the office saves on fuel costs, or eliminates the need to own a vehicle altogether.

It is quite likely that numerous bars, nightclubs, restaurants and other forms of entertainment are just minutes from your building.

As a young professional just beginning your career, you may feel a little bit overwhelmed by your job. But even if you keep long hours, you do not have to worry about mowing the lawns, raking the leaves or shoveling the snow. When you live in a loft or condo, someone else does it for you.

In general, lofts and condos cost less to buy than a single-family home. And it’s likely the utility costs will be lower, too.

If you choose the right loft or condo unit, you may live amongst a bunch of people who are in your age range. Whether you are settling in a new city or just beginning to live on your own, your building can be a great place to meet people.

Want to work out? Swim or soak in a hot tub? Play basketball or tennis? Many buildings have amenities like fitness rooms, pools and sport courts. Depending on the number of people interested, you may be able to start a basketball or tennis league, for example, made up entirely of your neighbors.

Even if you do not have a vehicle, you will not have any shortage of options for getting around. In addition to riding a bike or walking, there probably will be public transportation like a bus or light rail nearby.

Want to go out of town and visit friends? See a city you have never seen before? You can do that, on short notice, if you like, when you live in a loft or condo. And when you get back, the lawn will be mowed or the snow will be shoveled.

You can stay living in a loft or condo as long as you want, but if someday you get the itch to move into a single-family home in the suburbs you have options. One of them is to let someone else live there. Indeed, if you are willing to be a landlord, condos and lofts make great rental properties.

Some young professionals opt for renting a place. But if you buy a loft or condo, it is yours and you can do with it mostly what you want (so long as it fits within the guidelines of the homeowners association). So if you want to paint, change out light fixtures, or fill the walls with pictures, you can.
