All of us look forward to spring as the cool winter air starts to subside. Warmer, lighter days ahead gives us something to look forward to. However, we cannot fully enjoy what is in store for us unless we have prepared our property for spring. We need to prepare several items. This includes our home and garden.

Preparing your home

Your home will definitely need a lot of work. This is why you have to evaluate the work you need to accomplish. To do that, start by checking the exterior of your house. It is best to check this area first because this is where damage is most evident. Check the windows and doors. The caulking might be damaged. If it is, replace it at a schedule time. Check your exterior walls as well. See if there are holes, cracks or leaks caused by the cold season.

Check other features of the house as well. Include the roof as the winter may have caused damage to it. Assess the work that needs to be done and work on it when the roof is dry, as it is safer. You will also need to clean the gutters. Remove the leaves, twigs and branches that may have fallen on the roof.

You need to check on other external features of your property for damages. There might be cracks on your pathway or driveway. If there are outdoor structures like your gazebo shed and the like, inspect them as well.

After assessing and planning the necessary action for your exterior, check the indoors. Start by opening the windows to let the warm air in. This will give your home a refreshing feel. After being enclosed for a while, a rush of fresh air will definitely give your home positive vibes.

You should also start cleaning your home. Remove the clutter and dust of your furniture, ceiling, fans cooling systems and the like. Dust has surely accumulated over the past season. Dealing with them as spring approaches is a great way to start the new season.

Preparing your garden

Winter has definitely affected your garden. This has frozen your plants, destroyed your plant beds and has left your garden in a mess. This is why you have to start taking actions. First, you need to find out when the winter will officially end so that you can start gardening once again. Before planting new seedlings, you will need to prepare your garden. Remove dry leaves, twigs and other items that serve as obstructions for your garden. Use rake to clean the area.

You should also prepare your gardening tools. Sharpen them and make sure that they are ready for use. You can start shopping for seedlings, bulbs and garden decorations. However, you will have to do the planting indoors, until the winter ends.

Before planting, see to it that the garden is ready. Remove the weeds, cultivate the soil and fertilize it. This will ensure that your soil is ready for your new batch of plants.
Prepare your home and garden for spring to enjoy the warmer days ahead, better.
