If the spring and summer are times to open your condo or loft and bring the outside in, the opposite is true in the fall. It is time to start focusing on the interior and creating a feel that will carry you through the cold months ahead. Following are five easy ways to accomplish that task.

If there is a farmer’s market in your neighborhood, the fall is one of the best times to go. The food you can find there is delicious, of course, but in this instance, we are talking about decorating with food. Small pumpkins are great fall decorations. Just make sure you buy ones that do not have mold. Gourds are also good, as is squash. When looking for these items, focus on colors. Since they will serve as your décor, you don’t want them to be bland. Indian corn is another great fall décor item.

It is time to bring out those big and cozy rugs that you stowed for the summer, and put away the colorful cotton rugs you have been using during the warm months. If you do not have any rugs, considering buying them in fall colors. Not only will rugs make your house appear warmer – they actually will warm your feet if you put them by a chair or couch.

During the summer, many people almost forget their fireplaces. In the fall, it is time to make the fireplace the focal point of the room. Rearrange your furniture so it faces the fireplace and draws your eyes immediately to it.

A little color

There is a saying that for certain things, a little bit goes a long way. That holds true with paint. One of the easiest and cheapest ways to create a new feel is to add a fresh coat of paint. And you do not even need to paint your whole place, just choose a wall and paint it a warm color, like brown, orange, olive or rust. Make sure the paint fits in with the rest of your colors. It immediately becomes an accent wall, and it immediately makes your condo or loft more inviting and welcoming.

Energy efficient curtains

Fall days often do not get as warm as summer days, and fall nights certainly are cooler. As a result, most people find themselves turning up the heat and wondering how much the heating bill will be. A good way to save a little bit on heating and create a feeling of warmth in your condo or loft is to install energy efficient curtains that trap heat and transmit it into your house. Before buying curtains, decide on a color that fits into the color scheme you currently have.
