So you have decided to return back to your native India, whether your reasons are personal or professional, they are your reasons and to make moving back a seamless process there are a few considerations you should keep in mind.

First, carefully plan out how you will accomplish this. Moving domestically can be a very stressful event but in the case of an international move it can be exponentially taxing on your mental faculties as well as financially. Because it can be a very expensive ordeal, you should too determine if you are going to sell your bigger items (like furniture, electronics, excessive clothing items, etc.) and just purchase newer ones once you are back in India or if it would be more cost effective to just ship those things. If you choose the latter, you should start doing your homework on international shipping companies. Friends and family members who may have walked in your shoes before may be a good starting off resource but since everyone's experiences differ you should also do your own research as well. You can find a lot of valuable resources online. If you do not know where to start, try visiting online forums.

Or you can simply go to any search engine and type in "international shipping containers" and you will discover a plethora of companies who will ship your items for you. If at all possible try to get estimates from at least three or four and check to see if there are any independent sites that offer reviews of the company. For example:

  1. Shipping International, Inc. (headquartered out of Oakland, CA)

  2. Allison Shipping International, Inc.

  3. Universal Relocations

  4. Worldwide Ocean & Air Shipping Lines

These are just a few that offer international shipping to India. Again, when concerning your material possessions you want a company to take great care when shipping them. So do a lot of research on their handling procedures, what routes they take because some are riskier than others, whether they deliver door to door, their transit time (you do not want to have to wait months just to get your personal items), and what third party company they may hire for customs duty.

Take all of these factors into consideration, even the price because sometimes you get what you pay for and if it seems too good to be true it probably is. When you have chosen your shipping company also make sure to pack your items really well.
Shipping to India and move to India.
