Lack of space is a huge concern in many homes, and achieving a less crowded feel for your living space can work wonders on your happiness and stress levels. This is especially true in the bedroom, as most of us find having a personal space that is open and inviting to be very relaxing. Even if you do not have a lot of square footage to work with, there are many ways to experiment with the floor plan of your bedroom in order to make it appear larger. If this is something that sounds appealing to you, then use the following tricks and techniques as a starting point to turn your cluttered bedroom into a spacious haven.

Opening up your floor plan is essential to creating the illusion of extensive space. Your first step towards your goal is as easy as removing unnecessary items and adding new ones that make more efficient use of the space you have. Get rid of all your useless clutter and toss out any misplaced or mismatched furniture in favor of some that more elegantly serves its purpose without imposing on the overall feel of your bedroom. If your budget allows, consider purchasing larger doors or windows that will let in more light. Plan wisely and use shelving in order to keep a maximum amount of floor space uncovered.

A messy bedroom is a cramped bedroom; organization is key. If you are not a neat and tidy person, now is the time to make an effort to change your habits. No matter how large your bedroom is, it will always feel tiny and chaotic if every surface is covered in clutter. Do whatever you can to make sure your floor is a floor and not a closet. Focus on adding new and better storage space as well as organizing and using that you already have more effectively. This task may not be easy at first, but it is essential.

Align your doorways to increase the reach of your line of sight. This may call for a good deal of remodeling depending on the current setup of your home, but try to make sure the doorways to your rooms are directly opposite of one another. For example, if your living room is in between your bedroom and your dining room then you should be able to see straight through to the dining room when your bedroom door is open. Such an open line of sight makes use of the space in the rest of your home to make your bedroom feel more open.

A more expansive view makes for a more spacious feel in your bedroom. When you see a lot of space from your bedroom then it will naturally feel larger, even if most of the space you are seeing is outside the room itself. This is why increasing your line of sight and installing larger windows and doorways is so important. Leave your doors open whenever you are comfortable doing so and keep your floor plan as open as possible.
