The house prices in Liguria follow a very simple model. On the coast, where the demand is stronger, the prices are about three-four times higher than inland (a special case is Portofino, where the average house price is eleven times higher than in the inland villages far no more than a few tens of kilometres).
Despite of this, there are four resorts in a beautiful spot of the Eastern Riviera, where the average price for a new or completely renovated house does not exceed 3,000 Euros/Sqm (these data are referred to 2010). If compared with average house price of the whole Ligurian Riviera (about 3,700 Euros/SQM), this appears to be quite a fair price.
This is also more true if you consider that the resorts I am talking about are in the area which can probably boast the best climate in Europe (the average temperature in January is 9° C) and is rich in natural and historical beauties. The resorts I am referring to are all in the province of Imperia, around Ventimiglia and San Remo, in an area covered by olive trees and greenhouses for growing flowers:
Santo Stefano al Mare
These are the resorts where you can find the lowest average house price in the whole Ligurian Riviera. Near there, there are some of the most picturesque villages in Liguria, for example: Dolceacqua, Bussana Vecchia, Borgo di Cipressa (also known as Lingueglietta).
Other than the sunny and mild climate, all these resorts have some distinctive features which make them appreciable.
Camporosso is located inland, but it goes famous for its small uncontaminated sandy beach at the mouth of river Nervia. It is a free access beach, well managed by the Municipality. The part of the village located on the sea is called Camporosso Mare.
Vallecrosia (a village near Bordighera counting about 7,000 inhabitants) is appreciated for the long pebble beach and the beautiful sea promenade. They are proud to have an average of 300 sunny days a year.
Taggia is the largest resorts (about 14,000 inhabitants). It consists of the historic part located inland (Taggia) and a more modern part on the coast (Arma), featuring a wide sandy beach. It is connected to san Remo by a panoramic bicycle path.
Santo Stefano al Mare is a small resort (little more than 2,000 inhabitants) east of Taggia. It is appreciated because it lies on a flat land (which is not so usual in Liguria) and offers a sandy beach with shallow water.
