Chrome is so inherently modern that integrating it into your decor is one of the quickest and easiest ways to ensure your living room will be brimming with contemporary style. Designing a modern living room is a lot easier than it sounds, especially with the help of chrome. Important elements to consider include the creation of clear lines, strong focal points, and plenty of contrast through opposing colors and shapes. Use the following ideas to help you harness the power of chrome as a means of transforming your living room into a contemporary masterpiece.

Couches and Chairs

You can find stylish couches sporting chrome legs in a wide variety of designs. Black is the most common fabric color for these couches and therefore the easiest to locate, but really you can choose any color you like. Strong, solid colors work best for contemporary designs because they will provide the greatest contrast between the body of the couch and the chrome finish of the legs.

If you want to be able to accommodate a lot of people but are worried about taking up too much space then you might want to buy a sectional couch which can be formed into an L-shape and pushed up against adjoining walls. Sectionals positioned in this manner also keep your couch out of the middle of the room so that something more interesting can be used as the room’s focal point.

Coffee and End Tables

Chrome is also a great medium for contemporary coffee and end tables. Whether you purchase a table with a chrome frame and a glass top or go for an entirely chrome option it will instantly set a trendy tone in your living room. Explore your geometric options, considering both coffee tables composed of straight lines and right angles and those with more curves or intricately intertwining shapes. If shelving is an issue, then look for a table with a bottom shelf for storing magazines, newspapers, and other items. For a splash of exciting color, try placing a vibrant vase or other accessory on top of a chrome table.

Accessories

Chrome can be easily and beneficially allowed to spill over into the realm of your living room accessories. Ceiling fans and overhead lighting fixtures can both be purchased with chrome finishes. Just about anything you can think of, from lamps to figurines to picture frames, can come in chrome. The extent to which chrome permeates your living room is up to you, but any reasonable amount will go a long way towards keeping things modern. Be creative, and maybe even try making your own chrome colored decorations.

Coordination and Cohesion

Color coordination and overall design cohesion are important characteristics of any good home decor, contemporary or otherwise. Chrome furniture works very well in conjunction with colored walls, elegantly accenting and contrasting with the paint. Soothing blues and greens are best if you are striving for a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere in which to comfortable entertain your guests. But if you are looking for something a little more exciting, then chrome will also complement fiery reds or sunny yellows full of energy and life.
