These are hard times for the US as in the past one year there have been thousands of homes to be sold off as foreclosure properties. The home owners are finding themselves in debts running in thousands of dollars and hence there is no option for them but to sell of their homes to repay the debts. The government has taken some serious measures in the recent past to bring a little respite to the situation. The goal of the government is to let the owners keep their homes and come out with an alternative solution to pay off their debts.

The Federal Housing Administration has come out with a new foreclosure prevention initiative which consists of a mortgage insurance program to help those borrowers who have a good credit history but have still not been able to pay off the interest on their debts. The FHA helps these borrowers to refinance their existing mortgages. This program is believed to help about 240,000 families in the US.

The FHA has also appointed 2,300 approved counselors to help people across the United States. Even the Department of Housing and Urban Development has sanctioned more than $44 million in the form of grants to more than 400 states. So we see that government is doing quite its bit to put an end to this crisis that has spread across the world. The government also stresses that the people should be more aware of the terms and conditions of any property purchase or sale. They should be well versed with all the laws regarding real estate in their respective states.

The state authorities have started taking some serious steps to take control of the situation. There are training centers coming up that give lectures and counseling on foreclosure prevention. There is refinance assistance provided in the form of programs such as HOPE NOW. This is a private sector organization that has tied up with hundreds of investors, housing counselors and trade organizations whose purpose is to expand the remortgage operations and helping the owners of the property to get full knowledge of their loan agreements before applying for the same.

The government has assesses the situation and is now taking some strict action to put everything in control. However everything can’t be changed in a day. It will take years to get rid of the current financial crisis but we have to start somewhere to put an end to it.
