Send Your Pets on Vacation While Your Home Sells

If you want to sell your home quickly and easily, for the price you want, your pets should go. No, we're not saying get rid of them for good! We're saying they should be kept at a kennel/cattery or a friend's house until your home sells. A “vacation” for your pets can incur extra expense and scheduling, it is a much better solution than having them around.

Pets should definitely be out of the home for showings. Not everyone wants to be greeted by your dog or tour the rooms with your cat. Even a crated pet is an indication that pets live in your home. For an allergic person or someone who doesn't like animals, that could be the sole reason they do not pursue negotiations. Even fellow pet owners may be turned off at your choice of pet, pet accessories or any traces of your pets' presence.

The advantage of completely removing your pet from the house for a few weeks while you sell is that you won't be inundated with the hair your pet sheds and pet accessories can be put away. You also won't have to see to your pet in the advent of a “last minute” home tour. Pets can be seriously stressed by the repeated invasions of unknown people into their territory and while they may be equally stressed in a kennel or cattery, they will not be spraying, defecating on, chewing or scratching your property (which you hope to sell).

The absence of pets also means that it's easier to stage your home into a neutral ground for people to imagine themselves in. Not having to work around your pets' accessories and your pets themselves is a great bonus when you're trying to have everything in perfect order. Your pets' hair will not be floating around after a few days of pet-free hearty cleaning and their absence.

Removing your pets from your home not only frees your home from the hair and dirt they can bring with them, it also frees you from worry about their care while you are trying to sell your home. Your pets may also be less stressed at a friend's home or in a familiar kennel, where their schedule won't be interrupted by showings. Sending your pets “on vacation” while you sell your home is the best way to ensure an easy transition from the old home to the new, without a lot of the tension that can develop as a result of the selling and moving process.
