A total of 11,645 foreclosures have been filed for the first 9 monthly foreclosed homes auctions of Bexar County Courthouse in Texas, according to a foreclosure research firm based in Texas.

The number of filings represented a 40-percent increase from the 8,331 foreclosure cases filed for the first 9 auctions of Bexar County in 2008. It also marked the highest number of foreclosure cases filed since the research firm started monitoring foreclosure filings in the county since the start of the 2000s.

Currently, a total of 1,150 foreclosures have been filed for the scheduled court auction in September, marking an increase of 26 percent from the 910 foreclosure cases filed for court auction in September 2008.

For the August 2009 auction of Bexar County, a total of 1,175 foreclosure cases were filed, a decrease of 2 percent from the foreclosure cases filed for the July auction.

Despite the decline in foreclosure cases in August, the level of foreclosures in Bexar remains high, compared to other places in Texas. In the past ten months, monthly foreclosure filings have continued to exceed 1,000 filings.

In the neighboring counties of Guadalupe and Comal, the number of foreclosure filings for the September 1 court auction has also increased.

A total of 98 foreclosure filings for the September auction were filed in Comal County, an increase of 56 percent from the 63 cases filed for court auction in September 2008.

For the first 9 court auctions of the year in Comal, the total number of foreclosure cases filed also increased. A total of 772 cases were filed, an increase of 46 percent from the 530 cases filed for the first 9 auctions in 2008.

Meanwhile, in Guadalupe County, foreclosure filings for the September auction increased to 93, an increase of 58 percent from the 59 cases filed for the September auction in 2008. For the first 9 months of the year, there had been 756 foreclosure cases filed for auction, an increase of 58 percent from the 477 cases filed for auction in the first 9 months of 2008.

In a nationwide foreclosure report presented recently, San Antonio, the county seat of Bexar County, had more than 5,100 foreclosure filings in the first half of 2009, with 1 out 146 housing units in the city hit with a foreclosure filing. Filings increased by nearly 25 percent from filings in the second half of 2008 and by 20 percent from filings in the first half of 2008.
