When we first buy one, it is just a house; but when you fall in love with it, it becomes home. For most of us who have bought a piece of heaven, knows how painstakingly we put it all together. We love our home and it gives us the warm feeling of belonging, embracing us, giving us comfort and peace, which recharges us for another fast paced- busy day. Thus it is our duty to give back a little bit of what it gives us; something that is called home maintenance. If you over look this, it can create bigger problems in the house, which may make large dents in your finances and you can forget about that vacation you were planning on.
Home maintenance might seem a little daunting and expensive at first but it is not true, it is actually like investing in the future. A good- maintained home will certainly sell more in the property market in case you decide to buy a new house in the future and even if you don't sell it; your home will stand as good as new. For years and years, you will enjoy living in it stress free.
For essential home maintenance, the first thing to do is perform a through inspection. Inspect the plumbing for leaks, rust or choke-ups. If your home stays unchecked, it can slowly damage the paint and later, the structural integrity of the house. Inspect the electrical wiring for damages and this aspect better be done by a professional because it is a hazardous task. Check the furniture and wooden walls for termite infestation. If you own a house with tiled roof, you should also take a look into your attic for broken roof tiles and damaged or old insulation glass wool. Take a look at broken tiles in the bathroom or on the kitchen floor, if you see cracks or a broken tile, you should get it fixed pronto. If you find something off, you might want to immediately consider getting it repaired, as damages to any one of the elements will have a cascading effect on the rest of the house; and the problems will just multiply.
Every few years, it is essential to renovate the house and if your budget is slim, you can do it one at a time. Do this starting with essential repairs like plumbing, electrical wiring, flooring, the roof, and later move on to furniture and paint. Carpentry and paint is the best parts as it will improve the look of the house and aesthetics make it livelier and less boring.
Before you decide to do any kind of renovation though, don't just pick up the yellow pages, dial a number and get the job done. You must do research, get quotes, compare prices, and exchange them with your friends if one of them has recently renovated their homes. It is not necessary to do it yourself, you can always hire a professional to do the job, but you may want to find out whether they are really skilled. You may do this by checking their previous works and you must know what kind of materials they use for renovating houses. You must remember cheap is not always good.
Yes it does look hard and time consuming, but it is necessary. If you think about who you are doing it for, you will realize that it is something you should not look-over. It may just another house, but your family and you make it a home, so at the end of the day; it is the safety and comfort of the loved ones that count.
