The whole world is facing a massive challenge today posted for its inhabitants. Environment friendly measures are taken by thousands of organizations, government agencies and individuals. There have been widespread modifications in jobs and home practices, from the traditional methods to green equipment and practices. You too could be a part of this world cause by starting in your own home. Along the process, you would see earning benefits in many ways.

By having energy efficient appliances, would save you money from soaring electrical bills. Another money-saving and eco-friendly measure you could do is by simply improving the efficiency of your air conditioning system by regular maintenance. This is topmost priority in reducing energy consumption. This is because forty percent of energy usage in the U.S. alone is attributed to heating or cooling systems.

Either for the room AC units or the central air conditioning system, you could lower your electric bills by regular inspection of the said systems. The Energy Star program issued a checklist for maintenance. The aspects you need to ensure in top condition are the thermostat settings, condensate drain and system controls. You must religiously tighten electrical connections and lubricate moving parts, especially the motor and fan. Make sure that lubrication is done in frequent intervals. The friction in motors would require much electricity use.

Better performance for the room AC unit could be achieved with three simple rules. The first step is to substitute or clean the air filter. Refer to your userís manual upon removal of the filter. In putting back the filter, make sure that it is in the appropriate place of the air flow. When this part is not cleaned regularly, dirt would easily accumulate which would then clog the air way. At least once a month of this activity would be the ideal time during the cooling season. Next is to clean the outside of the unitís condenser. Get rid of spider webs, debris, oily deposits or any dirt. You may use a vacuum cleaner for the fins but be very careful. The drain holes should also be dirt free so the condensate water could easily drip. As the Energy Star suggested, lubricate the fan motor. And the last step is to cover the external of the unit. Use plastic or cloth to cover the unit after the cooling season has ended. Remove the cover before the cooling season.

Despite the high energy consumption required for central air conditioning systems, there are only six easy maintenance steps. The first step is alike the one for the room AC unit. The second task would be for cleaning the water drain. Repair leaks and/or blockage. Cleaning, covering and uncovering steps are also the same for the exterior of the condenser unit. Next task would be for the air distribution registers or duct openings. Especially those placed in the walls or floors, keep away anything that would block them. These should also be opened and closed in accordance to your cooling or heating needs. Lastly, the ducts should also be properly kept in good condition. Since these may need high-powered vacuum cleaner in thorough removing the dirt, hire a professional service company. Some companies even apply antibacterial chemicals to lessen recurrent formation of dirt, dust and molds. You are even improving the air circulation inside your premises.

Doing these steps could give you many advantages. Saving is topmost priority too these days amidst global recession. Your bills would significantly decrease. Your AC units would also have better performance and extended service life. And most importantly, you are saving the world in your own initiative.
