Humidifer and Dehumidifer Option for Your Home- By: Sonia Smith
Both humidifiers and dehumidifiers are necessary tools that help in controlling the humidity concerns in a home. However, if you are uncertain if you truly need a humidifier or dehumidifier in your house, try to measure the humidity level with the use of a hygrometer. It is cheap equipment that monitors the air that your breathe, so you can do something to maintain the optimum level of the air.
Humidifiers and dehumidifiers can be used in different household, office and commercial settings. As long as they are properly used, they could make a difference to any living area either at home or at work.
If you are going to use either of the two in your home, make sure to determine the kind that you need. Primarily, there are two procedures that it could use to produce moisture or steam such as the evaporative and the ultrasonic. The evaporative is the cheapest and most commonly used while the ultrasonic produces a finer water mist.
Both kinds are useful for warm or cool mist models, but the ultrasonic is safer to use since it does not produce mist by boiling water. Thus, it does not have hot water that could be hazardous if the unit is knocked over.
Humidifiers can vary in their ability from compact to large ones. The large ones are typically used in the bathroom and the living areas. The console model is freestanding and large as a whole-house unit. Another kind of whole-house humidifier is the flow-through unit, which is usually installed in the duct system.
Expect certain operating noise from a humidifier. Nonetheless, if you are going to use it for a bedroom, look for those with silent or low setting. The ultrasonic type is the most quiet since it does not have boiling water hissing and moisture is discharged in a fine mist.
If a humidifier puts water or humidity in the air, a dehumidifier does the opposite. Its aim is to eliminate moisture or ‘dry out’ the air around. There are four kinds of dehumidifiers, like the compressor based, the peltier kind that uses metal in condensing the air, the dehumidifier and the silica gel based unit that comes with a cassette or rechargeable tub that can be used in smaller compartments like drawers.
A dehumidifier is greatly helpful through the day in the home during hot season. The use of dehumidifiers is considered important in a home. However, the choice to use both humidifier and dehumidifier is determined by the pre-existing conditions in your home. Find out if you have too little or too much humidity in your home.
Too much humidity can cause respiratory problems, fungal skin infections because of the fertile breeding area that dampness can provide. Additionally, most mechanical equipment could malfunction in a humid surrounding.
Inadequate humidity is equally troublesome and irritating since it can cause allergies, can trigger asthma and skin problems like dryness and itchiness. Lower humidity also means that people in the home are more susceptible to colds and flue. Furthermore, fixtures and fittings such as musical instruments, wood furniture and hardwood floors could also be affected severely by dry air.
If you have either of these at home, it is better to install either a humidifier or dehumidifier now. A small investment could go a long way of improving the air that you breathe.
